Story from NBC Montana
MISSOULA, Mont. – The NHL season wrapped up with a Pittsburgh Penguins championship this week and now the countdown starts for hockey faithful until the next season can arrive. In the Garden City the countdown is on to see a brand new junior team take the ice in the Missoula Bruins.
Of course the new franchise comes with many changes. The team name itself of Bruins will be an extension of the existing youth hockey programs in Missoula as the high school team is also called the Bruins.
The new owners are Jason and Liz DiMatteo of Missoula. Jason brings in an extensive hockey background from running ice rinks and youth programs to even coaching at the college level.
The Bruins’ league will also differ from that of the Maulers as Missoula will now play in the North American 3 Hockey League, known as the NA3HL.
